We come to the last article in our main 7 chakra series! Today everything revolves around the Crown chakra! The last chakra in the system plays a unique role in human spirituality, connection, and awareness.
The Crown chakra or Sahasrara chakra in Sanskrit is known as the “connection to the cosmos.” It is the most spiritual nature of the seven chakras. Located at the top of the head, it functions as the center of the spiritual, enlightenment, wisdom, universal consciousness, and connection with the higher guide in us all.
It regulates the interaction and communication with the Universe and gives us a sense of inspiration and devotion. The union with our higher self and the divine allows a more profound understanding; at the same time, it is responsible for a healthy spiritual life. In a way, the Crown chakra is our connection to our greatest potential.
Sahasrara also means “uncovering the spiritual self,” like a lotus flower opening to the sun. For some, it isn’t easy to accept that maybe humans shouldn’t know everything and feel everything. Trying to measure spiritual feelings is an attempt to hold the smoke back….in other words, it’s hard! We do our best to realize that we are all beings in this Universe who are bound to an energy source that we may not fully understand.
Some people think of the Crown chakra as a metaphorical “umbilical cord” that connects us to the divine through which humans are connected, so we don’t “float away.” (Imagine an astronaut tethered to his ship, your body is the ship and the astronaut is your soul/spirit or unconscious mind). Because of this direct connection, we mustn’t see ourselves as separate from the divine; on the contrary, this major universal force is just an expansion of the same energy we all possess. It’s the unity that all our dreams are possible, so make them positive.
Basically, you have to have a “you can achieve” mindset, but you must believe. Say out loud or write in your journal, “I can achieve (insert goals, prayers, wishes, and desires here). The power of prayer is incredible! Pray for everything positive you want to come true. Pray for others too!
The effort to be part of something bigger than oneself drives humanity forward. The first people to erect the first stone altars to praise the deity aspired to something greater, a feeling they had for a greater purpose. Once we meditate on the Crown chakra, we attain this indescribable energy that unites us to the Universe. You become a magnet to all your goals and prayers.
The Root chakra exists to remind us of our earthly roots, and the Crown chakra exists to remind us to achieve what we cannot describe to others with words. The things we know in our heads are true. Our brains don’t know the difference between what’s real and fake. If you think to yourself positive thoughts, then positive things will happen. If you think negative thoughts….guess what will happen? Yep! Negative outcomes.
Don’t worry about what might happen, and begin to think of all the great things that get to happen just from learning how your chakras work.
For some, this energy is used when worshiping a deity, for others; the cycle of nature and the planets. To each their own! For you, if you’re just now learning about your chakras, then maybe you’re trying to connect to your greater self and live a healthier, happier lifestyle.
The Crown chakra has masculine energy and is represented by violet and white colors. At the same time, its symbol is a circle with a thousand petals. Elementary is related to thought and silence, and its mantra is “I know.”
But make sure that your Root chakra prevents your Crown chakra from “floating into space!” You have to remain grounded.
In the search for divine peace, do not let yourself forget that you are still a living being here on earth with all of us!
Spiritual obsession can be detrimental to the physical self if not controlled. You will find that you believe almost anything, no matter where the information is derived.
On the other hand, be aware of selfish thinking and unwillingness to change your mindset. Ignoring the big picture or a larger universal design can lead to moral error, apathy, and arrogance. You will find yourself acting like a jealous dragon who has amassed wealth at the expense of your spirit.
True peace of mind will not leave you in despair. That is a sign of an overactive Crown chakra, and you need to return “back to earth” for a while.
As with all chakras, self-awareness is the key to good energy flow. Be aware of yourself, be moderate, and give love. In meditation, remember the lotus, be open and let yourself be guided and strengthened by universal energy.
PROPERTIES OF THE SAHASRARA
When the Sahasrara chakra is activated, it brings a more positive outlook on life. It reflects all the negative thoughts that unhappiness and stress bring into our lives. There are visible changes in our habits and attitudes when the ego no longer controls us. Emotions like gratitude, compassion, and acceptance become our true selves.
The Spiritual Connection Of The Color Violet
The Crown chakra color is violet or white. Violet is the color of spirituality. It is a unifying color that, when fully activated, contains all the qualities of the other chakras. It brings a strong sense of distance and also the joy of transformation. There is a perception of profound change.
The violet mind allows the ego to see beyond existence’s simple physical and material values.
The Crown Chakra Is Life Energy
Symbolically, the Sahasrara consists of the purest form of prana (breathe, life energy) and spins around the realm of mysticism. So those who have a blocked Sahasrara are narrow-minded and unable to see the big picture. They lack motivation and blame others for their crisis or stagnation. They also have a distorted view of life, death, and spirituality.
The Crown chakra reminds us that we are constantly faced with crossroads at some point in our lives where we have to allow an old phase or habit to “die” to be reborn.
The Crown Chakra is Humanity
It is the human chakra. Here we realize that we are all in the same boat, we are all one, and all of our souls are here to learn what it is like to be in the human body; that’s it!
ONENESS
Those who have no connection to others or are not open-minded may suffer from empathy problems. They are lonely and are usually strongly critical of faith, belief, and spirituality.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF A BLOCKED CROWN CHAKRA?
The main challenge of the Crown chakra is on the mental level. When someone is too withdrawn and attached to materialistic aspirations, that signifies a blocked Crown chakra. A person with a blocked Crown chakra may not want to open up to others’ ideas, thoughts, or knowledge.
Signs such as psychosis, dissociation from the body, separation, and bottomlessness also manifest themselves when the Crown chakra is out of whack. This chakra can produce different symptoms depending on excessive or inadequate activity, but basically, if you’re always thinking the worst of things then be prepared to have the worst of things happen to you. You can’t say, “this always happens to me” or “why do these things always happen to me” because the more energy you give those negative thoughts the more they will attract bad things toward you.
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF AN OVERACTIVE CROWN CHAKRA?
Too much energy or overstimulation of a particular chakra is a sign of imbalance.
A hyperactive Sahasrara can lead to severe spiritual and mental problems because of its direct role in spirituality, sense of achievement, emotional balance, mental strength, and endurance.
Signs of an overactive Crown chakra are:
❖ Irritability
❖ Arrogance
❖ Impatience
❖ Anxiety
❖ Headache
❖ Psychosis
❖ Fragmentation
❖ Overwhelmed feeling
❖ Feel unfounded
❖ Materialistic tendencies
❖ Try to dominate others
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF AN UNDERACTIVE CROWN CHAKRA?
An underactive or blocked Sahasrara has an enormous impact on the spiritual well-being of the body.
A blocked Sahasrara means that you can no longer connect to yourself and the world around you. However, there can also be mental and physical manifestations.
In addition, a blocked Crown chakra leads to reduced mental/emotional strength.
As a result, the spiritual connection to yourself and the environment is unattainable. A blockage or imbalance generally causes this in one or more of the primary chakras. Emotional stress is another common cause of underactive or blocked Sahasrara.
Symptoms of an underactive Crown chakra include:
❖ Powerless feeling
❖ Negativity and apathy
❖ Reduced mental strength
❖ Inability to see a deeper truth and connection
❖ Failure to make good decisions
❖ Headache on top of the head
❖ Learning difficulties
❖ Brain tumor
❖ Feeling lost
❖ Amnesia
❖ Autism
Physical Signs
When your Crown Chakra is blocked, you may feel a little unstable in your physical body.
Some physical signs of a blocked Crown chakra include:
❖ Imbalance
❖ Poor general coordination
❖ Low physical performance
Mental Signs
While working with the Crown chakra, take some time to think about the world around you and to take your attention away from yourself. Some of the questions you might ask yourself are: How am I connected to the world? How can I get rid of the confusion about my place in the world? How can I become a better version of myself?
When your Crown Chakra is blocked, certain mental signs may occur, including:
❖ Confusion
❖ Lack of connection with the world
❖ Hyper Spiritualization (i.e., a lot of meditation, 20 minutes twice a day is all that is needed.)
❖ Mental dysfunction
❖ Little concentration
WHY SHOULD THE CROWN CHAKRA BE ALIGNED?
Do you work for enlightenment? It’s a beneficial endeavor. Working with this energy center shows your interest in a higher purpose and way of life. The Crown chakra is also the gateway to super-consciousness, a state of being in which it is no longer possible to feel separated from everything and everyone. When your Crown chakra is in line, you start to clear up any misunderstandings about why you are here and who you are. A balanced Crown chakra provides spiritual understanding and peace with a clear perspective.
When the Crown chakra is unbalanced or blocked, you can experience disappointment, boredom, melancholy, and restlessness.
TIPS FOR HEALING THE CROWN CHAKRA
This chakra guides our spiritual and mental intuition. The other six chakras supply the energy for the Crown chakra. For this reason, it is crucial to work on the lower six chakras to activate the Crown chakra effectively. Once you understand the lower six chakras you can work on opening the Crown with the steps listed below.
Chandra Mantras Or Sound Vibrations
“Om” is the Kundalini Bija mantra. The chanting of “OM” (pronounced AUM) affects the vibration frequency of the Crown chakra. Use your breath – inhale and vibrate the OM sound as you exhale. This mantra is very powerful and means the essence of ultimate reality. Use it while meditating for at least 20 minutes twice a day, preferable before breakfast and before dinner. Remember, this is a lifestyle change so try to start a regular routine and stick with it. If you forget and eat before you med it’s ok, just try to remember next time. Still take the time to meditate though.
Crown Chakra Meditation
All kinds of meditation practices are best for keeping the seven chakras aligned and open. Meditation promotes self-awareness, the regulation of emotions, and relaxation.
Here are the steps you will need to do a simple Crown chakra meditation:
❖ Sit in a relaxing chair in a comfortable position with good posture, your back straight, and your feet flat on the floor. (Or you can opt to sit feet together, cross-legged on a yoga mat, on a pillow, or bed…just get comfy).
❖ Put both hands in the “mudra” position by placing your hands on your knees and turning your palms toward the sky or touching your thumb and middle finger together like in the picture on the right.
❖ Breathe in through the nose and breathe out through the mouth while your eyes are closed.
❖ Keep breathing slowly and evenly. Imagine the lotus flowers blooming in white light.
❖ Imagine the light color around your head slowly spreading over your entire body.
❖ After 20 minutes, open your eyes and sit quietly for a while.
❖ Chanting the seed mantra “AUM” also aids in deep meditation and healing of the Crown chakra. You can say it in your head or out loud if no one is around.
Yoga Asana To Activate The Crown Chakra
Yoga poses with the forehead resting on the floor and sitting positions are helpful for awakening the Crown chakra.
Here are three yoga asanas that can easily be performed to help balance the Crown chakra:
Standing on Your Head | Shirshasana – This yoga asana Headstand is considered a restorative pose to stimulate the prana in the Crown chakra. Although it affects the core muscles, this asana also builds strength, stability, and energy. Try holding this pose for at least five gentle breaths. Regular practice of Shirshasana brings clarity and mental balance.
Rabbit Pose | Sasangasana – The Rabbit pose is a terrific way to develop a deep connection with the Crown chakra. This yoga pose relaxes the head, spine, and shoulders.
❖ Kneel down and lean forward, bringing the top of your head toward the floor.
❖ Reach back with your arms and grasp your heels with your hands.
❖ Lightly touch the floor with your head instead of pressing hard against the floor.
❖ After several breaths, lower your hips towards your heels, release your heels, and work your way up to your spine into a sitting position.
Corpse Pose | Savasana – The Corpse pose is the simplest and most effective yoga asana to practice letting go. It teaches you to completely let go of your efforts, judgments, desires, and expectations. Increase the benefits of your Crown chakra in this pose by imagining white light entering the top of your head and moving down your spine as you inhale. As you exhale, imagine the light moving up your spine to the top of your head.
Lotus Pose | Padmasana – The Lotus pose is a cross-legged sitting meditation pose from ancient India, in which each foot is placed on the opposite thigh.
Crystals
Stones and crystals help the Crown chakra remove all blockages related to the mind and enlightenment. As this chakra is related to spirituality, transparent white crystals are recommended to solve problems in this chakra. Clear Quartz crystal is a popular stone for removing negative energy that could be blocking your chakra. Diamonds are also a powerful stone for this chakra for enlightenment and energy release. Purple stones are also related to the Crown chakra, with Amethyst being the most popular. There are several other healing stones for the Crown chakra, such as:
❖ Selenite
❖ Apophyllite
❖ Sugilite
❖ Lavender quartz
Aromatherapy
For one, spraying or applying essential oils like lavender and jasmine can be calming and relaxing for the Crown chakra. In contrast, oils like Cedarwood, Sandalwood, Frankincense, and Myrrh can stimulate the mind. Just make sure to use caution if you’re pregnant to see which oils are ok and which ones are not….see why here!
Affirmations
Affirmations are another great way to align your Crown chakra. They can be used alone, in pairs, in a group, or with other activities such as yoga and meditation. Perhaps the easiest way to use them is to incorporate them into your daily life to create cohesive spiritual awareness.
Affirmations are one of the best techniques for balancing the chakras. They all aim to build self-confidence and self-esteem without any judgment or ego.
These affirmations promote an open Crown chakra:
❖ “Divinity resides within me.”
❖ “I am open to new ideas.”
❖ “The information I need reaches me.”
❖ “The world is my teacher.”
❖ “A higher power guides me.”
❖ “I let my inner wisdom guide me.”
❖ “I am connected to the universe and everything that surrounds me.”
❖ “I let something bigger than myself guide me.”
❖ “I have access to wisdom and peace.”
Nutritional Healing
Although certain foods with specific colors in your diet are beneficial for the lower six chakras, the Crown chakra requires something different….Fasting! Fasting functions as a spiritual rather than a physical form of food. A period of food abstinence provides relief from physical worries so that all your attention can be devoted to your spirituality and higher consciousness. You can, however, have water (plain or sparkling/no-calorie drinks), plain black coffee or tea without added cream, milk, or sugars, and you can have bone broth soups if you’d like.
